Sustainable Stationery: 2023’s Must-Have Merch
You know what they say – new year, new merch! (We promise, that’s definitely how it goes.)
Our first merch off the rank for 2023 – Sustainable Stationery, made right here in Melbourne, Australia. Fair Dinkum.
You see, traditionally, we’ve made alllll of our stationery off-shore. The quality is *mwah* chef’s kiss and there are endless customisation options, but the lead times are, at minimum, 12 weeks. This wasn’t great news for clients who needed something pronto. There was also the issue of our carbon footprint, which we’re constantly trying to shrink.
Merchgirls’ Co-Founder, Pippa, and Production Coordinator, Julia, decided last September that something had to change. They interviewed a host of local printers who do large print runs and offset printing, and by the end, they found two they L-O-V-E-D. Now, we’re expanding our offering of eco-friendly merch with a brand new range of office essentials – Sustainable Stationery!
What items are available?
The Lisha Notebook
Featuring a velvety, soft-touch cover for oohs and aahs, the Lisha Notebook is the office essential you won’t want to go far without. Lisha can be fully customised on her outer and inner covers and has a flat spine – the perfect spot for your brand name. All 120 pages can be printed in full colour too, and she comes in two desk-ready sizes – A5 and B5. With Lisha, you also get the choice of quality recycled, certified carbon neutral paper, OR non-recycled or partially recycled options. And again, Lisha is locally made right here in Melbourne.
The Julia Notebook
The Julia is similar to the Lisha in terms of customisation options and look, however, the Julia flips open from the top. Julia is equally equipped with 120 pages and all the customisation options and comes in A5 and B5 sizes. You can choose a matte laminate or velvet-soft cover for Julia, and she’s the notebook of choice to keep well-stocked for your office desks. Like Lisha, Julia is as green as they come! You’ll get to take your pick of recycled, semi-recycled or regular paper. And again, Julia is locally made right here in Melbourne.
The Matilda Memo Pad
The Matilda is a BIG step up from our previous memo pad offerings. A generous 50 sheets, Matilda comes in an A4 size and a soon-to-be-released A3 king size – so she’ll make herself a can’t-live-without necessity for your office’s desks. You get the same paper options for the Matilda as with the notebooks – the choice of fully recycled, partially or non-recycled paper. Whether you’re investing in fresh new pads or just need to top up your office’s stock, Matilda is the memo pad that works for (quite literally) everyone. And again, Matilda is locally made right here in Melbourne.
Why we’re obsessed with Sustainable Stationery
Our new notebooks and notepads aren’t just really cool products – this new range has opened up a lot more opportunities and choices for our clients. By working with local businesses, the average lead time for these stationery items has been cut from 12 weeks to just 4! This means we can get more merch turned around in a much shorter period of time for clients who need Merchgirls’ quality items, super fast.
This new range is also a big step forwards for us in terms of our carbon footprint, which is significantly reduced by choosing local suppliers. Our suppliers offer 100% recycled and certified carbon-neutral paper which is made using the waste of white paper from the Maryvale Paper Mill in Victoria.
We’re also SO excited to be working with and supporting local Melbourne printers, especially as large-scale printing has dropped in popularity in recent years. We’ve been able to have in-person meetings and get a hands-on feel for the quality of their products, which has been a new experience for us, and makes the merch that much better!

SO many reasons. Mainly, it’s good for the planet and it’s amazing for your brand reputation.
